GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATION OF GROUNDWATER POTENTIALS USING RESISTIVITY METHOD: A CASE STUDY OF ABU PHASE II STUDENTS’ HOSTEL

Geophysical survey for groundwater was conducted in two newly built halls of residence (hostels) named Dangote and Shehu Idris at the second phase Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria Nigeria. The vertical electrical sounding (VES) technique resistivity method employed with Schlumberger array seven VES points distributed within hostels. Results showed that 4 to 6 geoelectric layers exist study area a spacing most 200 m between current electrodes. values all ranged from 26.6 Ωm – 30342 while thickness depth 0.263 40.34 0.572 50.66 respectively. However, four (two each hostel) were identified be suitable borehole drilling though, three out these have single aquifer ranging 34.4 40.57 2.02 7.49 Conversely, fourth point has aquifers positioned third fifth 51.4 1.93 18.7 m. It recommended among contain aquifers, priority should given ones larger hostel.
